Whole genomes from 49 Yellow-whiskered Greenbuls across Africa split into western, central, and eastern lineages that match long-hypothesized Pleistocene forest refuges, but the eastern lineage's mitochondrial DNA turns up deep inside central birds that otherwise share almost none of its genome.
